Die Comedyserie Cybill spielt in Los Angeles, wo für die Schauspielerin Cybill Sheridan (Cybill Shepherd) mit zunehmendem Alter die Rollen ausbleiben. Mit Nebenrollen und Werbespots hält sie sich über Wasser. In der Serie sieht man Cybill häufig für ihre Jobs in verschiedene Rollen und Kostüme schlüpfen. Die Serie basiert lose auf dem Leben der Hauptdarstellerin Cybill Shepherd, die auch den Titelsong Nice Work If You Can Get It beisteuerte.
1996 wurde die US-Serie Cybill mit dem Golden Globe als beste Serie ausgezeichnet und wurde während der gesamten Laufzeit für zwölf Emmys nominiert. Das Network CBS beschloss nach der vierten Staffel die Serie trotz respektabler Einschaltquoten recht aprupt zu beenden, da es hinter den Kulissen zu internen Unstimmigkeiten gekommen war.
